Since LUNI websites started, dating far back to the timtech days. People have made posts addressed to other users, these posts have proven time and time again that they spark arguments and just take up space on the site. If we were to implement a private message system these discussions can be done privately, thus making LUNI’s website cleaner.
Find Tim a plugin for WordPress and he might do that. But we normally have Skype or Email for that!
I tend to agree with @xiphoseer here, users would get notifications via email about a private message anyway, so I guess there is no reason not use to email. I guess we should just force a more strict ruling about topics like that (i.e. directly remove them)
@live Basically this feature would rule out topics as I mentioned before. But it would also give us a cleaner way to communicate. Emails and Skype are normally shared through threads some of that should be kept private in order to prevent the Egmos from doing a certain few things to them.
No, it would spawn a ton of
– “How do I use the private message”
– “Hey, did you get my private message”
– “Oh btw, I sent you a private message”
topics & responses.
Nobody shares real private Skype conversations that are serious and competent, or it is at least done with care. Just don’t post in a group then.
It’s up to you guys. I already had a PM plugin on my main site (although I removed it a while back).
We could implement it if we strictly remove topics that have said content mentioned by Xipho and Kitty and if you provide a “FAQ” on how to use it. label it “not officially supported” and everyone is happy.
I think it may be a good idea. If it starts to become annoying we could just remove it. Xipho makes some good points and if these things become issues we should definitely remove the ability to PM.
Why don’t we try it out. And see what happens. If it works it works if not then it does not.
Okay, I added a plugin that lets you PM others, using the contact link under their name or on their profile. All current mods have been given privileges to moderate these chats.
This update has really improved the site. Much less fighting and it looks a lot more professional.
It does slow page loads though, by a few seconds…
Yeah but it does help.
I wasn’t sure if it was the private nessages slowing down the site, but I suspected it. It is really noticable on my landline connection, which is pretty annoying.
