So new public server? Cool. Wait a minute. You are using Google Forms. To receive usernames…
Do you have any idea how insecure that is.
People, the forms themselves say not to use them for storing/gathering passwords.
So you compiled the EXE’s. Well at least you got farther then egmo. However, that does NOT mean you have the capabilities to host. Setup the UniverseLauncher or even just the CMS. They were built for a reason:
so people wouldn’t use Google Forms to host.
Please don’t think I am against servers, I have hosted more public servers than anyone here. However, atm, all of mine are shut down. Why? Because of the work. I could not balance my life with the demands of the server’s… Now sure, you may have some free time. But trust me when I say you will not last long without quite a few people helping you.
I can promise you this: you will literally drown in requests. Even if you do successfully setup a working CMS, the security issues are incredible. All recent servers have been downed by hackers. Pardon me if I don’t think they will spare yours.
But overshadowing everything I just said is the fact that DLU is just around the corner. You might last a month before everyone leaves. Is that worth it to you?
Anyways, bottom line: consider carefully all of your options. This should not be “just for fun.” If you are opening a server, I would hope you would try for a remotely professional manner.
So far I am not impressed.
This is well put, and worth the reading.
That being said…as a long time member of the LU community, under one nickname or another…every project, every reboot, every everything, has always been “just around the corner.”. DLU certainly seems to be farther ahead than most of them, but until we see an actual gameplay video, I can see why people would be more interested in making servers than in waiting. “A bird in the hand,” etc.
@Pirateronin true. However, unlike other “Just around the corner” updates, this one has been confirmed to be close by 😉
Thanks for your input though.
