So does that mean that it is probably not in the ability for an average person to make a small multiplayer server?

Actually, no it is not out of the ability of an average person because it would be difficult. The issues are the following:
    – The source has never been cleaned up to support a “fresh install”
    – It’s a development snapshot, so some features are halfway done or broken
    – It certainly has buffer overflow errors and other problems, making you vulnerable
    – When stuff inevitably breaks, you’ll better have experience or you can’t fix it
    – Noobs will spam everything when they can’t play

This is why I don’t recommend for anybody to set up a server. And the no-support, no-tutorial rule is to prevent people ignoring this.

    Hi @alanzote-new,

normally, nobody cares in which pk file the fdb is specifically, since there is no reason not to unpack the full client. If you knew how the pk extraction process works, you would not need this information at all. So I assume, there is some arcane patcher issue that makes you want to manipulate the fdb to update the client. This wont work easily. There is more to repackaging new data than just manipulating some bytes.

Furthermore, coming here, and saying “I need help” is pretty ridiculous, since Egmo as the one you develop for doesn’t seem to care about those who know this kind of stuff. Tell him to react to my post on his forums first, then I might write a tool to find out which file has the cdclient.

I guess you’ll find someone who’ll tell you the answer aanyways. It is neither difficult nor private information, in fact much of the pk file extraction process is documented nicely by some awesome people. I’m not saying this because I don’t want you to have this information, but because I want people to realize, that you actually slow progress by pissing off the people who have experience.

Lastly, this is not your issue but Egmos. But by working with him, you chose to make it your issue too.

Hey @KeksHD (by that name I guess you speak german, welcome here, there are many of us)
I just took some time to explain the requirements and more of developing LU in some detail, after reading this post. Have a look at it on my blog over here: https://xiphosia.wordpress.com/working-on-lu/. I hope this clears it up a bit. There is a lot more information on that blog if you are interested.

Da die Frage vielleicht auch gestellt werden würde:
Der LEGO Universe Client (und in Teilen auch der Server) hat, wie auch hier ersichtlich folgende Middleware/Engine-Komponenten verwendet:
    Gamebryo (Engine)
    Havoc (Physik)
    Scaleform (UI)
    RakNet (Netzwerk)
    Bink (Filmsequenzen)

If you look at the forks of that repo, there are some which are ahead a bit, but in general there is not much else. (Don’t use the lego club one, it doesn’t have any genuine progress, use jaller200 or CuzItsJonny)

I think it sounds like there is not enough disk space for extracting a compressed file (e.g. zip).

The server has a console. You have no access to that console when trying to connect to a public server, since you do not host the server.

I agree throwing insults is pointless. It is just making me sick that all these enthusiastic guys here praise the “community” and people that give them access to their beloved game over those who make it work. Egmo needed my help at the time to even get the server working. He has “fixed” some code but as far as I know only Kendal and Alanzote have done some progress. And Timtech once said he barely contributed 100 lines.

I spent more than a month of my life working on LUNI nearly everyday, implementing the multiplayer, chat, mail, worldtravel and character creation in LUNI fully and showed it to the public because I care about LU.

Now there are people like @Becool again, who run around praising luniserver.com for this progress. Yes, as a common place to find out about LU it’s acceptable, but it does not represent those who worked on it.

Even then, it actually is at least oartially Knightoffaiths success that we have this dedicated site instead of timtechs personal page. And actually there was a forums on sourceforge being used regularly until Raffa ragequit.

I ask you all to keep in mind and to communicate clearly, that you need to respect those who do the work or you’ll constantly hinder progress.

And lastly: I do believe Timtech and Egmo have good intensions. I just hate the trail of chaos they leave behind.

There are people on these forums who would indeed not realize they need to press enter. But then again, disappearing is unusual. Does it open up a new console window which closes almost immediately? It should just print any output in the window it was started from and return to the command line if it crashes or terminates, leaving the console visible.

I’m not sure about 0.6.3, I know it uses mysql but might be broken.

What do you mean by latest? Where did you get it from? Did the console window really disappear? I forgot in my post that you need to execute the line by pressing enter after typing in ‘LUNIServer.exe’

Please read the code of conduct/forum rules before posting. Confirm that you’ve read this response and the rules, then this topic will be deleted.

I answered the same spam question a day or two ago, and it’s even in the FAQ by now.

What server version are you using? If you are on Windows press SHIFT + Right-Click in the folder with the LUNIServer.exe file, select “Open Command Prompt here” (or similar, mine is in german), and type in “LUNIServer.exe” or whatever the server file is called. This should keep the console open, even when the prohram fails and exits immediately.

We acknowledge, that you have searched for a topic, however, you still seem to NOT have read the forum rules, as it clearly says:

Before asking for help, look at the FAQ or search for existing topics.

You can get there via Info -> FAQ in the menu bar on this page.
There you would find this in the client section:

Q: When I put in a username and password on the login screen for Lego universe it says “Sorry, we could not log you in to Lego Universe right now, try again in a few minutes.”
A: The client displays this message when it cannot reach the server (in which case it displays “Connecting to Authentication” for a few seconds before this message is shown). When you see this error, make sure that the server is running (console window is open), the server has successfully launched (no MYSQL error), the server threads are working (Messages like “World started! Listening on: 2003”), and the client connects to your server (you should see “Server IP: 127.0.0.1”, “Server IP: localhost”, or the external server IP you wish to connect to at the bottom of the login screen).

And if you look closely at your screenshot of imgur and the other topic, it clearly says Server-IP: 127.0.0.1, meaning you messed up your boot.cfg and are trying to connect to your own machine which does not run a server.

I hope you realize now, why I’m very tempted to just delete this topic, and you’ll apologize soon for not having read Topic: Code of Conduct / Forum Rules carefully enough, which you should do right now.

What you did here is spam, posting against the rules twice in two different topics for the exact same issue.

I’ve posted this in other places and if I recall, @HappyAngryCatfish wanted to bring this up here:
One of Egmos developers has destroyed Jonnys database and thereby put his server out of service. This was preceded and lead to other negative actions, but Egmo did spam and insult in that skype group. That is more than off-topic, and therefor I consider this relevant. I posted about it here https://xiphosia.wordpress.com/2016/01/06/note-by-xiphoseer/.

I’d wish to have Egmos server temporarily hidden in the public server list, until he apologizes on behalf of his team (even if he “fired” that developer). Furthermore, he fails to give credit to anyone who worked on UniverseServer, like this site sadly does too. At the same time, anyone who spammed or as I’ve heard tried to crash Egmos server should apologize to him.

UPDATE: I’ve talked to Egmo, and his behaviour seems appropriate, i’ll try to update my blog post. Consider this post here deprecated.
