Hello everyone. I am Jason the co-owner of Ion Universe, I do not host the server but do I do most of the work and help the server out. This post will be divided in 2 sections, the servers up time & IP and the recent incident that happen. So as of right now you have to change your
AUTHSERVERIP=0:ion.luniserver.com
toAUTHSERVERIP=0:ion.no-ip.org
. The reason we have no-ip.org DNS set up is because it automatically updates and checks for IP changes every 5 minutes or so. We will soon be purchasing a domain (possibly this weekend). I will also be making a word press for updates about our sites because, wordpress.com never goes down. I will be posting the word press link later on in the comment section of this post when I finish working on it. Please do not think I am copying other people like Xiphoseer, CDFalcon or TimTech by making a word press, I simply just want a simple update site.New Server IP
To anyone wondering what happen to our server, it was up the entire time. Our IP changed which means at the bottom ‘Ion Universe’ appeared offline because Tim did not have the time to update the DNS on it. To access our dashboard head over to http://ion.no-ip.org/ion/ and to access our forums, just press «Forums» on the side once you log into your dashboard or just press here.Trolling section
Recently our Account DB got flooded by Egmo. In fact, he made over than 18750 accounts (Proof that Egmo possibly did it)
This is absolutely useless as it impacts our server by zero percent but instead wasted time and resources to whoever did this. I highly doubt this was not Egmo due to the fact that he has deleted Jonny’s database. Now due to this, Me & other people now have to clean this mess up and possibly delete some legitimate accounts. This in fact made over 700 pages in our phpMyAdmin database. For anyone thinking, this will be easy to clean up, it is not. 700 pages is way to much just for 2-3 people to clean. For Egmo or anyone else that was on his side on doing this, we will seek the person who did this and we will have our side of revenge.Thank you for reading and listening,
-Jason and on behalf of the Ion Universe team.- Este debate fue modificado hace 8 años, 7 meses por Glass.
abril 7, 2016 a las 12:23 am #5149– dumbtube –Participanteok cool, thanks for clearing this up. Now how do I delete my stupid forum post. Whoever did this is just hurting the community out of spite, I hope they get what’s coming to them.
abril 7, 2016 a las 12:49 am #5150jon002ModeradorHmmm… I would probably highly advise the use of a CAPTCHA for sign ups. Can’t believe this isn’t a requirement actually. But that would help a LOT with these kinds of attacks.
Answer the Call. Save Imagination.
-Jon002abril 7, 2016 a las 5:40 am #5152WincentParticipanteNow it’s 40k accounts on the site…
abril 7, 2016 a las 7:16 am #5154CookieMonst3r123ParticipanteGlass is currently in school and we did try a CAPTCHA but it messed up I myself will try and do it now though.
abril 7, 2016 a las 8:09 am #5155XiphoseerModeradorI actually doubt Egmo was doing it, but that is not relevant. I would advise using
DELETE FROM accounts WHERE email LIKE '%egmo.co'
or similar. Doing it manually is just painful and not necessary.You might need to change that query slightly as i’m not sure if ‘email’ is the correct name of that column in the DB. Look up SQL!
abril 7, 2016 a las 8:13 am #5156LiveModeradorHey,
email
should be correct, the table column is specified as'email' varchar(30)
.As Jon already said I’d suggest setting up a captcha asap, that would at least stop the registration flooding.
Also I recommend grabbing the webserver log files and identifying the IP that sent all the post requests to the webserver. You can then go ahead and block the IP or CIDR completely off your network. Since you seemed to have problems with the 0-payload packets in the past, I recommend sniffing the traffic of your server as well (at least when being attacked) to identify the problem and block it.

abril 7, 2016 a las 9:01 am #5165CDFalconParticipanteYou know, it might be a lot simpler to purchase a Static Domain from your host. I would assume that they are changing your IP to STOP your server. Generally, private internet companies do not enjoy servers being run on their «home» plans. I learned that one the hard way before I opened my hosting network. Anyways, don’t be surprised if you find either your internet bill skyrockets or it is shut down.
LUNI sucks up network traffic like you wouldn’t believe.
abril 7, 2016 a las 9:34 am #5167CookieMonst3r123ParticipanteI would have to pay for a business plan with my ISP which is like ten times more expensive and its an infinite plan so its a fixed bill.
abril 7, 2016 a las 11:11 am #5168LiveModeradorInstead of getting a business line from your ISP, have a look at so called «root servers» from different datacenter ISPs or cloud solutions like Amazon EC2, Azure or Softlayer. For stability & security reasons as well as your own mental sanity, I’d strongly recommend moving to a dedicated server instead of hosting it on your own machine.
abril 7, 2016 a las 12:12 pm #5169CDFalconParticipanteI agree with Soren. It is so much easier once you get it setup.
abril 8, 2016 a las 12:45 pm #5194JallerParticipanteAny idea when the server will be back up?
abril 8, 2016 a las 5:19 pm #5201Sheffi JParticipanteWhy is Egmo so salty. He didn’t do anything. He’s just mad for no reason. If anyone’s mad it should be us for Egmo taking credit for stuff he didn’t do. I mean that’s just douche move.
If you think about it, he’s mad because we stole the stuff he stole from us. And he’s not anywhere close to man enough to face any of us via any sort of communication.
Btw, loving all the new additions to the Luni site. Keep it up! 😀
abril 8, 2016 a las 5:52 pm #5206TimtechSuperadministradorYou shouldn’t be angry at Egmo… I’m pretty sure he didn’t do the spam, more likely someone else making fun of him. His server was respectable, yet he has become the scapegoat for LUNI’s failures, it seems.
abril 8, 2016 a las 6:09 pm #5207Sheffi JParticipanteOh, oops.
Well then whoever did it is just a straight up jerk.
There 🙂
