Hey everyone,
today we opened a new subforum on this website dedicated to coding and tinkering. This subforum is specifically targeted towards people wanting to learn different programming languages or people that want to help out with the LUNI development while not being a developer themselves.
You are also welcome to ask questions about specific code snippets or issues that you encounter during your journey.
In the next weeks we will fill this place with tutorials and other information as well as collaboration projects. In addition to the general Code of Conduct these rules apply to this subforum specifically:
- No spoon feeding
- Use the search function on this website and google before asking your question, a lot of times the question will already be answered that way.
- Do not provide links, sources, snippets or questions to any malicious, intentionally harmful software or code, this also includes exploit and cheat development.
- Request-for-help posts should be made with effort
- No hostility towards users for any reason
- Full setup instructions of how to run a LUNI server are still forbidden
We are hoping to light a small fire in some people to continue improving the LUNI software in a combined community effort, so please feel free to participate either in asking questions or answering them.

septiembre 22, 2016 a las 6:39 pm #6827PunkiwiParticipanteSo, if i would want to help, who would i contact?
septiembre 23, 2016 a las 12:00 pm #6828XYQuadratModeradorYou should probably first look at the GitHub repository. Have a look and get comfortable with the source. Be warned, there is no official progress in LUNI since about half a year (excluding Jonny’s source or other spin-offs).
noviembre 29, 2016 a las 4:50 pm #7089d_mcquackParticipanteI would love to learn C++ and help develop this new game. I have very fond memories of how the game looked and worked. Chiefly, I’d prefer to be brought up to all the developments so far. Secondly, I would like to know who is in charge of what, and what is the vision for this game? Are there assigned developers to specific areas of the game? What is under development right now? If there is someone who can talk to me, please provide an email, so we can chat.

noviembre 30, 2016 a las 9:46 am #7090kee225ParticipanteHello @d_mcquack!
The last version of LUNI is 0.8, and isn’t officially a part of LUNI. It includes custom characters and most world loading. It does not include anything besides spawning NPCs iirc.
There are two public servers at the moment. The first is Jonny’s server. It has been around for around a 2 years I think. It is currently running a modified 0.8 server. He is no longer working on the 0.8 server, but is instead working on a complete rewrite of the server called JALUS (Just Another LEGO Universe Server). It will include things like a better Replica Manager, and better stability.
The other server is called LUR (LEGO Universe Reborn). It has been around since last December and is running a modified version of 0.8 server as well.
Both servers include smashables, enemies without AI, and spawning NPCs. Neither of the servers have working missions, rebuildables, bouncers, rockets, racing, properties, and more.
There is a private project as well. It is called Darkflame LEGO Universe (DLU) and has been in development since LUNI first started. The goal of DLU is to bring back the full game. They will not go public until it is the full game again. If you want to chat more, add me on skype, with my username being the same as my account name here on the forums. Thanks!

diciembre 10, 2016 a las 11:48 pm #7123BagelParticipanteI’ve always wanted to learn to code, and i would LOVE to help since LU was my favorite game ever. But is C++ difficult to learn, or something that I would have to learn when I’m older?
diciembre 13, 2016 a las 12:36 am #7135WheresMyMailboxParticipante@Bagel If you are willing to put in the time and effort, you can start now. I am 13 and am learning Python, have already Learned JavaScript, Basic Java, some HTML and CSS, Basic SQL, and PHP. You yes, you can learn and start now, as long as you put effort into it. I learned all my stuff on YouTube and https://www.codecademy.com/learn/all
Hope this helps!

diciembre 13, 2016 a las 12:38 am #7137WheresMyMailboxParticipanteBy the way, I have a quick question, can I make a video on how to create and first setup a public server. I know I can’t post a thread on it, but can I just make the tutorial at some point, or should I hold back on that for a while.
diciembre 13, 2016 a las 2:16 am #7138WincentParticipantePlease do!
diciembre 13, 2016 a las 6:54 am #7139XYQuadratModeradorI don’t really see the point in a tutorial on how to set up a public server. Obviously some people will learn something about networking and stuff, but I’m afraid that there will be another flood of badly hosted & unreliable servers like we had it with LUR a while ago. Jonny’s server works like a charm and he is making progress with his rewrite of LUNI. That said, this is only my opinion, maybe this turns out to let people understand the difficulties in setting up a server better and therefore give more respect to people like Jonny or CDFalcon.
