    Hi I’m LomboRL!

I worked on Hungarian projects making Private servers for some games including World of Warcraft, Metin 2 etc.
I don’t know how but I searched for LEGO Universe on YouTube and actually found a guy’s video where he played
on Egmon’s server and after all I’m here on this site.
I was just thinking about the whole public server thingy since both of the servers are down.
What is the best version LUNI Version to run a public server?
Do bugs even appear in-game (on the server not on localhost)?
Is content making possible (for exp.: events with portals to another world or something)?
Is there any advenced guide from the beginning to make a server?

That is the latest server version and it has never been publicly released. Support isn’t provided for setting up public servers or configuring unreleased server versions. So to answer your last question no there isn’t a guide on public servers. There are various guides on YouTube how to set up older versions.
Not quite sure what you mean by content making?

First of all thanks the quick response,

Under content making I mean that you know in most of the games on holidays you can go to
christmas, easter etc. map where you can for example loot things and kill holidya/event related monsters and stuff.
I belive that there is a program or something that you can make models, textures and other things with.
But anyways thank you very much sir and I will probably post about the server when it will be in a test phase.

5.1 is the easiest to setup, simply forward ports 1001 2002 2003 and 2004.

6.1 can be used as well, however MySQL is needed for it to run.

8.0 is 100% the best server version, however as Catfish said no one will give you support.

Not really knowledgeable in that area but yes I’m fairly sure adding new content is possible. Though that really hasn’t ever been much of a goal due to the incomplete state of the server. You can download the PKExtractor in the downloads area to extract the client assets.

@HappyAngryCatfish In that case if I will extract them to assets with the PKExtractor they are just «materials».
Then I just need to fin a way how I can create content that I can really add to the game through Extractor and so on…
Then If I wanna run a real server on a host looks like the game will need a custom launcher because of the upcoming content
if its will be possible. And on the unrelased 8.0 version only «game crash» related bugs will appear?

Hey, you can’t compare any of the LUNI versions to stuff like Mongoes (WoW). From what I’ve seen it’s fairly hard to add new content and the stability of the server is a nightmare as well. I strongly suggest to not host them publicly (because of severe vulnerabilities on the code as well).

I am not sure what has been fixed in the latest version but memory leaks are a huge issue as well. The memory usage will rapidly skyrocket towards 2+ GB and the server will then continue to crash without further notice or logs.

Perhaps don’t add any new items until your familiar with all of the server files and crap. I tried making a server a few days ago but I didn’t understand it, so I just gave up.

Setting up a server is not a problem.

    @Live
With an easy coded porgram I think everyone can do the after crash restart but first If
somone in this topic said that 8.0 is the best for servers but will see.
And If I wanna host a final stable server I would only do it with a hosting service but yeah we need to check the peeks.

As I said, I can only make you aware of the problems that comes with hosting a LUNI server. The code base is very unstable and broken, there are a ton of vulnerabilities that could be easily exploited and lead to even bigger harm.

That being said, the last version I hosted peaked at 2GB RAM with only around 10 players on it within 10 minutes. It is certainly not a good experience for players if you have to restart the server application every 10 minutes causing them to disconnect.

I’d rather wait until someone fixes these severe bugs (pointing a finger at @Xiphoseer ‘s direction here) before hosting a public server again.

In addition to that the server has some design issues that lead to pretty high bandwidths and CPU spikes. I’d recommend getting a full root server and not a virtual server for hosting purposes as well as unlimited bandwidth plans.

@Live, Xiphoseer does not further develop the GitHub version. He joined DLU about half a year ago and since then, no code on the repositry changed. It’s true that there are several vulnerablilties in the code. But if you want to use this code, then you will need to deal with that.

Then I wonder how Jonny’s and Egmon’s server worked?
Like on the client side with XY version. Crashes and the -frames and stuff.
But obviously I will test 8.0 for sure today

They didn’t «work», at least Egmo’s didnt. It was more like a huge clown fiesta. The server had more downtime than uptime, people complained about connectivity issues all day and the whole organization and hosting part was a huge mess.

Also 0.8 has No NPC’s ( Not like they could be interacted with though ) and you cannot move in venture explorer.

The only reason johnny and egmo had this ability is because they had there own modified version.

Is 6.1 any better than 6.3? (6.3 can’t load worlds)

Also, is 8.0 actually downloadable? I can’t find any links for it.
