I’m part of the DLU team, and I think the apropriate answer to your question is that DLU is as real a project as LUNI, the only difference being that LUNI code is out there and DLU code is not.
marzo 26, 2016 a las 4:34 pm en respuesta a: Lego Universe ION removed? ( We had Xipho\'s permission ) #4722XiphoseerModeradorOk, there is a strong need for some explanation here:
That conversation posted is real but incomplete. Glass and Arron were asking me about what requirements there were for setting up a server, my answer was that I’ll need to think about it. I started asking some questions about what was planned, focussing on what was relevant for me to know first.
To move the security issue out of the way first: I helped Glass set up a private server. When they asked about making that public I wanted to know about the target audience and advertisement first before making any judgement at all. I asked Arron some of this in private chat before, but recieved no response. I realize saying «but that’s your choice» was a mistake, but it was meant as an acknowledgement of a plan, not a «sure do whatever you want».
There is some of the conversation missing in that screenshot, in which it became apparent that they wanted to develop the server further and some info on which contry they come from which I can understand why that part wasn’t posted. Then at 14:40 (Timzone of the screenshot) I wrote that I had to go, which I did, with the conclusion that Glass wanted to ask more questions, to which I said he could write them in chat and I would read them later.
I’ve not been on my PC until just now, and am quite sad to register these events.
To make it absolutely clear: From my point of view, I DID NOT give any kind of permission to open a public server. They asked for requirements but did not await a definite answer and decision. Me being friendly does not me I agree to anything.
Furthermore, I specifically discourage anybody to set up or join any such public server before a set of requirements has been written down and agreed upon by developers (@Jon002, myself, …), moderators (@HappyAngryCatfish, @Knightoffaith) and experts (@Live) as of now.
This means that Glass & Arron have neither permission nor blessing by any of us to make their server public at this point.
Finally, they have told me that @Prodigy_XD offered
and confirmed to be ableto hack Egmo’s database. This is just disgusting, no need to say anything else.- Esta respuesta fue modificada hace 8 años, 8 meses por Xiphoseer.
XiphoseerModeradorThis actually got me thinking about how the multipurpose of money is also its greatest pitfall. Sadly this world is reigned by those who have it by now, as has been the case for a long time. I started working on LU because I liked the game back in the day, and because it is an awesome opportunity to reverse engineer into a very complex system as it turns out. Even if it was allowed to make money of it, that would not have been my goal. Anyways, I’m really sad, that you are right in general, that this would attract people to work on stuff.
XiphoseerModeradorWhat you mean by evolution exactly? Jonny and CDFalcon did a lot with their first public multiplayer server, as did Knightoffaith.
XiphoseerModeradorYou’ll need to download it from its source on github and compile it yourself. There is no packaged version to just install and run. It has some quirky requirements like the names files in a specific location, which may not be there in the last repo version.
That doesn’t exist for much the same reasons why you should be careful setting up a public server.
Just to give an example: Timtech and Alanzote (currently working for Egmo) had a length discussion back in November because they failed, trying to apply assumptions from the old versions to mine.
I’m tempted to write a tutorial but I wont for known reasons. Hit me up on skype (same username), give me a strong reason why you’ll not become the next Egmo or Lego Club and I might tell you what you need to keep in mind.
XiphoseerModeradorhttp://twitch.tv/cdfalcon like last time probably. And I think we’ll be honoured to have you @pwjones1969 watching as one of those who made these projects possible in the first place.
XiphoseerModeradorProbably the FAQ since it really is a frequently asked question. Maybe multiple slightly different ones.
Q: I want to play the game, how do I do that?
A: Currently you can download a LU client and the LUNI server v0.6 to get a very incomplete but mostly working server. For multiplayer servers you will probably need to wait for a public server as it is harder to set up, like the one CuzItsJonny used to provide or DLU.Q: I want to host a LAN Server to play with my friends
A: … 0.8-dev; not recommend; vulnerable; port forwarding or hamachi.Q: What is the LUNI Server capable of?
A: … v0.8-dev: multiplayer, chat, mail, char creation, sometimes NPC; v0.6: visiting worldsQ: …?
A: …XiphoseerModeradorShort Answer: No
Long Answer: I had written half a post in a somewhat unfriendly matter before realizing once again, that this site features no indication of any state of any project at all. As a moderator i’d have preferred if you used the search on these forums to learn more before posting, but it’s actually fine that you raise this issue to our attention.
Depending on which version you can get to work, LUNI can go as far as creating and playing with your character, sending mail, writing in chat, switching between worlds and (in some rare cases) spawn NPCs which don’t move and don’t do anything. Still a LAN server is not recommended as any source probably has several vulnerabilities, that go beyond simple crashes and might allow someone to corrupt your whole system.
Oh btw, have a look at this and the rest of that blog.

XiphoseerModeradorDLU will likely not have such commands available for users.
XiphoseerModeradorActually, only port 1001 is required for the Auth server. All other ports should be configurable in config.ini
XiphoseerModeradorHey @Sztos, welcome here!
When you want to get into development, have a look at https://xiphosia.wordpress.com/working-on-lu/. LUNI itself may be the open source project you can start form. As in finding a team, thats trickier as most developers work seperately or in private groups.
Please also read about the history of LUNI and respect it.

XiphoseerModerador@cxopa (Seltox), what do you mean by «the secure file»? Is that mentioned in a tutorial of some kind, or what else requests from you to remove such a file? When setting up a LUNI Server, there is absolutely no need to remove any «secure file» at all.
If you are referring to the hosts file to make the original patcher work, i’d recommend to manually edit boot.cfg instead or use UniversePatcher or another configurable patcher out there (which I don’t know if they exist, other patchers might be server specific)

XiphoseerModeradorI called a version of it pre-release v0.8 which proved to ne a bad idea as peopke distributed it and 0.7 was maters never finished build. As said in another thread, the jaller200 fork is a bit more advanced but that’s all that is public.
XiphoseerModeradorYou need to set up Gravatar with the exact same EMail address you used her. But that has been explained in older topics, please search for those first.
