Due to recent (and not so recent) events I thought it would be adventagous to make this PSA.

LUNI of course has a long and complicated history, much in relation to both the technology itself and more significantly the people involved. As with anything online, please maintain the upmost caution and skepticism in anything you see or read, as this project is frankly structured in such a way that can easily lead to issues in both regards.

Just a little while ago, there was a post linking to “DLU signups” on Google Forms, asking for email, username, a desired password, country, and willingness to donate. After speaking with a DLU developer I learned that this was not in fact legitimate and promptly closed the topic. The legitimacy and intent of posts like this is near impossible to determine. However, you should ALWAYS verify where the information is coming from (in this case a new user who did not have any support from credible users, and of course none with knowledge of DLU), NEVER give out passwords or information unless you are fully comfortable with this information being disclosed publically (never assume information will remain undisclosed, though working with known entities which have proved credibility reduces risk), and while intentions may be good, remain sceptical and understand the possibility of negative/harmful intentions.

Also, it is important to understand that the LUNI Server software is NOT MAINTAINED and has KNOWN SECURITY HOLES. USAGE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK, and usage without proper knowledge of network security RUNNING THE SERVER CAN POTENTIALLY LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER VULNERABLE, AS WELL AS ANY VISITORS TO YOUR SERVER.

I apologize for any alarm/anger/concern/worry/etc this may cause, but with the current state of this project I feel it is necessary. Do not interpret this as saying that the project is bad, no entity can maintain any trust, or you should avoid anything to do with LUNI/LU servers, only that, like anywhere else on the Internet, you should use the utmost caution.

    Thank you,

    Knightoffaith
